The Importance of Collaborative Work in the Development of Erasmus+ Projects

Social networks have become one of the main means of communication and dissemination of information in contemporary society. However, easy access to information and the speed at which it circulates present significant challenges in terms of veracity and reliability.

In this context, the need to be critical of the truth or falsehood of information on social networks becomes increasingly important.

Social networks are undoubtedly one of the largest spaces for interaction and dissemination of content. Millions of posts, videos, memes, and articles circulate every second, addressing topics from different areas of knowledge, from news about politics to tips on well-being. However, along with the vast amount of content, comes the problem of misinformation, disinformation, and even fake news. Studies have shown that false information has a greater potential for virality on platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and WhatsApp, which puts the formation of a well-informed public opinion at risk.

In this scenario, being critical about the veracity of information becomes essential. However, this criticism cannot be carried out in isolation. Building a critical and in-depth analysis of information requires that different perspectives be heard and debated, and it is at this point that collaborative work becomes a powerful tool.

Within the scope of the Erasmus+ KA210 Project “The Insible Face of Media”, an activity was developed that focused on collaborative work involving different groups of students and teachers from different schools in the countries involved: Portugal, Turkey, Poland, and Romania.

This collaborative work, as a strategy to promote debate in defense and critical analysis of information published on social networks, encourages reflection on the implications of the veracity of information and helps to form a more conscious and responsible view on the use of social networks.

Collaborative work involved the joint effort of students and teachers to achieve a common goal. In debate contexts, it can be seen as the exchange of ideas, experiences, and knowledge between individuals with different perspectives and cultures. When applied to the field of analyzing the veracity of information on social networks, collaborative work proves crucial for presenting diverse perspectives, collective empowerment, the development of critical thinking, and reflection on the social impact of information.

The activity developed promoted the formation of different groups containing students from different schools and countries and the holding of debates that were essential for collaborative work in building a more critical society, highlighting the following aspects:

Strengthening democracy and European identity and values: A well-informed debate is fundamental to a healthy democracy. By promoting collaborative work and critical analysis of information, this type of activity helps create more informed citizens who can make more conscious political decisions.

Reducing Misinformation: When people are trained to think critically about the information they consume and share, they become less susceptible to misinformation and more likely to question the veracity of information before passing it on.

Promoting Empathy and Understanding: Collaborative debate not only helps in data analysis but also fosters empathy, as participants learn to listen to and consider each other's points of view. This collaborative and respectful environment helps combat the polarization that often arises in social media communication.

The increasing complexity of social networks and the rise in the volume of misinformation require individuals to adopt a more critical and analytical stance toward the content they consume and share. Collaborative work in debates can be an effective strategy to promote critical reflection on the veracity of information, as well as fostering a more informed and responsible society. Through the exchange of ideas, collective empowerment, and reflection on the social consequences of information, it is possible to strengthen critical thinking and reduce the impacts of misinformation on people's daily lives.



In this way, by promoting collaborative debates, we can not only improve the quality of information available on social networks, but also contribute to building a more conscious society, one that defends principles and values and is less susceptible to the pitfalls of misinformation.
